WHAS Television in Louisville Kentucky produced a special report about repeat Scratch Off Lottery Ticket winners in Kentucky. In this two part series we meet a couple that used to own a lottery retail location who have an amazing run of wins crediting them to "Luck and playing alot". Part two of the series details the production of Scratch Off Lottery tickets and their eventual distribution throughout the Commonwealth. It ends with a brief hint at the level of difficulty a big winner may have when cashing the ticket in at the retailer.
Overall the story is well put together and thought out but it does leave the viewer wondering. Typical of short television productions it suffers by not providing near enough detail or facts and figures. It is worth a watch if you are a regular player or even the occassional scratcher.

So what do you think? Have you ever hit one big? How easy would it be to cheat?

"Racinos" in Kentucky.
This blog has a unique and difficult to argue with post about allowing Video Lottery Terminals, Video Poker, Video Slots or any kind of expanded gaming into Kentucky Horse Racing Tracks.
FYI, The term "Racino" is a combination of Race Track and Casino.

Protecting Kentucky Horse Racing
Protecting Kentucky's Horse Industry
| The success or failure of Kentucky's horse industry affects the lives of 100,000 Kentuckians, 365 days a year. So who are the 100,000 people employed in our signature industry? Hay and grain farmers, truck and van drivers, veterinarians, feed producers and suppliers, tack producers and suppliers, landscapers, grooms, racetrack employees, farm employees, professionals in the advertising, insurance, legal and accounting fields, and the list goes on ... | ![]() |
These are the faces of the horse industry. They feed their family, put a roof over their head, send their kids to school and support Kentucky's economy based on the success of the horse industry year round. It is vital that we do everything we can to strengthen and protect an industry with such a large economic impact. But Kentucky's horse industry is in trouble. Our competitors in other states are using money from expanded gaming to increase their purses and breeder incentives programs. They are luring away Kentucky horses and Kentucky jobs. This article in the Courier-Journal, titled “Racing Out of Kentucky” is a good summary of the challenges we face. Governor Beshear has called a special session starting June 15. The session will include a bill that will allow our horse industry to compete on a level playing field. By allowing VLT's at Kentucky racetracks, our horse industry will be able to compete with our competitors in Indiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and other states. The industry is not asking for a bailout, tax incentives, subsidies, or one dollar of tax payer money. Rather, it simply asks for the tools to be able to compete. Please call your legislator at 1-800-372-7181 and tell them to support Kentucky's horse industry by allowing VLT's at Kentucky racetracks. Also, please click here to sign the petition in favor of our horse industry, and the 100,000 Kentucky jobs it represents.

Poker Players Alliance Declares Victory in Minnesota
State Drops Enforcement Against ISPs Allowing Access to Internet Poker
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 4, 2009) -The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide (and more than 15,000 in Minnesota), declared victory as news broke that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety was dropping enforcement action against Internet Service Providers that provide access to Internet gambling sites, including legal Internet poker sites. The announcement was made by Representative Pat Garofalo, who indicated that the matter was concluded after "the legal position underlying the issuance of the notices was reconsidered." Garofalo specifically credited the PPA and the Interactive Gaming Council with contributing to the conclusion of the matter.
"This is a great day for internet freedom," said Garofalo. "In the spirit of cooperation and in recognition of the rescission of these notices, I am more than happy to withdraw my bill and in its place sponsor a discussion aimed at establishing a framework for regulating and licensing the online gaming industry."
"Minnesota poker players made our voices heard, the state listened and ended its ill-advised and improper attempt to circumvent the rights of Minnesota poker players," said Matthew Werden, Minnesota State Director of the Poker Players Alliance. "We commend Representative Garofalo for literally taking this misguided effort head on and resolving it without incident."
"We are extremely proud of our membership for unifying so quickly and effectively in opposition to this action," said John Pappas, Executive Director of the PPA. "We look forward to working with all parties involved to reach a sensible framework for regulation of this 21st Century pastime."

Electronic Frontier Foundation Joins with ACLU to urge Kentucky to cease
The ACLU and the EFF have filed an Amicus (Friend of the Court) brief urging the Commonwealth of Kentucku to cease its attempt to seize internet domain names. The brief found here; http://www.eff.org/cases/commonwealth-kentucky-v-141-internet-domain-names# , clearly states that our state government has reached beyond its jurisdiction and into international affairs. Simply put if Kentucky wins any government in the world can seize any domain name that it does not like.
What is your view?
Is this a well thought out approach by the Governor's Office or an accidental pie in the face?
Your opinions are welcome.
